Clinical Philosophy
Dr. Arvind Krishnamurthy is a pioneering Surgical Oncologist and the Professor and Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology at the Cancer Institute (WIA), Chennai. With over 24 years of experience, he is a leading authority in head and neck, thoracic, and breast oncology in India.
He completed his MS in General Surgery from Madras Medical College and specialized in surgical oncology at the prestigious Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, where he earned both his MCh and DNB. Since 2018, as the HOD at WIA, he has overseen the expansion of surgical services, including the introduction of robotic-assisted and minimally invasive thoracic procedures.
Under his leadership, the department performs over 2,700 major surgeries annually. Dr. Krishnamurthy has been instrumental in standardizing breast conservation techniques and sentinel lymph node biopsies, achieving rates of over 83%. He is deeply committed to academic excellence, mentoring 9 MCh trainees annually and founding the Surgical Oncology Clinical Orientation Program (SCOPE).
A prolific researcher with over 250 peer-reviewed publications, he has led landmark studies on HPV in oral cancers and molecular profiling in thyroid and lung cancers. He serves in key leadership roles, including Honorary Secretary of the Indian Society of Oncology (ISO) and has been honored with the Best Doctors Award from Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
